Student Support Specialist | Reading Support

Part-Time Position for the 2025-26 Academic School Year

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Reading Specialist to work with students in Grades K through 6. This part-time position (10 hours per week in the mornings) focuses on delivering Orton-Gillingham individualized or small-group instruction for students with diagnosed or suspected reading challenges, including dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and small-group reading instruction using multimodal, structured literacy strategies based on the Orton-Gillingham approach.
  • Support or lead implementation of reading screenings.
  • Implement targeted intervention plans aligned with student needs and assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, learning specialists, and administrators to coordinate support, including attending weekly meetings with the Student Support Center team.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with families regarding student progress.
  • Maintain documentation and monitor growth using evidence-based tools.
  • Contribute to a school culture of inclusion, empathy, and high expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Orton-Gillingham training (certification required).
  • Teaching experience with Grades K–6.
  • Experience working with students with dyslexia, other language-based learning differences, and/or special education needs.
  • Experience implementing a structured, multimodal approach to reading instruction.
  • Commitment to an individualized, student-centered teaching philosophy.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, special education, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a Montessori or independent school setting.

Schedule & Compensation

  • 10 hours per week, mornings only (exact schedule determined in collaboration with school leadership).
  • Hourly compensation commensurate with experience and credentials.
